Over the past 30 years, he has compiled an outstanding resume of dedicated service to God, Country and Community.

His experience includes Education Consultant, Urban Ministries; Pastor Faith Fellowship International Ministries, Powhatan, VA; Pastor Hollywood Baptist Church, Powhatan, VA ,1998-2000; Minister of Christian Education, Grace Institutional Baptist Church; Minister, Inner Circle Ministries, Assistant to the pastor of Grace Institutional Baptist Church, 1990-2004, Richmond, VA; State Environmental Health Consultant, Virginia Department of Health, 1990-2009; Pastor, New Life Community Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA, 1985-1993; Professor of Theology Richmond Virginia Seminary, 1992-1993; Ordained, Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1985; Assistant to the Pastor, Youth Director, AWANA Clubs Director, Usher, Vice President Men’s Fellowship, Crusader’s Auxiliary, Honorable Retired USN, Vietnam Veteran.

Professional Organizations of Past and Present include Biblical Institute for Social Change, Howard University Divinity School; Baptist Minister’s Conference of Richmond and Vicinity; The Baptist Ministers’ Union of Richmond and Vicinity. The Sharon Baptist Missionary Association, Old Dominion Missionary Baptist Association; Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers Conference; Portsmouth Inter-Denominational Ministers Forum; Chaplains Corps, Medical Centers Hospitals, Sentara General Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia and President, Tidewater Association of Environmental Specialists, 1985-1991.

Many of Rev Benton’s accomplishments include First Black Environmental Health Supervisor of a State Department of Health; First Black Environmental Health Manager and Consultant for the Commonwealth of Virginia; First Black to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Dairy Practices Council; Board of Directors of Central Virginia Food Bank; Virginia’s First black voting delegate to the NCIMS Congress; First Black elected to the Board of Governors ; Mid-Atlantic Milk Seminar, and many other professional organizations. Co-author of “How I Got Over” edited by Colleen Berchett, Ph.D and one of the Vietnam Veterans written about in the international best seller “Bloods” by Wallace Terry. Contributing writer, “Precepts for Living”, The Urban Ministries Annual Sunday School Lesson Commentary; 1998-1999, thematic essay, “That You May Believe”; 2003-2004, “More Light on the Text”.
